8, 9, and 10 are today’s magic numbers.
An American Carol beat out Religulous this weekend for #8 at the box office. It’s not very impressive given that Religulous had half the amount of theaters…but I think it still deserves a good “tee hee hee.” A film like that will only slide down the charts, though I’m sure it will end up on HBO. So don’t cry Bill Maher, you’ll get your money one way or another.
Apparently, I’m still taking hallucinogens because Fireproof is still in the top ten. It was #8 this weekend, beating out both An American Carol and Religulous. I just…I just can’t believe it.
I know I should go see it, but I…I just…Kirk Cameron is in it! He seems like a nice guy…but I just can’t. Blame the film school trained snob in me that has seen way too many bad Christian movies. If it’s still in the top ten next weekend maybe I’ll go see it….MAYBE. Of course, I’m sure I’ll have to go by myself as I don’t think I could convince anyone I know to come with me, and nothing’s sadder than a girl with a cross around her neck going to the movies alone. But don’t cry for me Argentina.
In other news, a couple of the JP Catholic kids made the LA Times last week:
Steve Marshall, 20, made his pro-Proposition 8 video, “Four Men In Black,” as a college project. “I go to a Catholic film school in San Diego,” he said in explaining why he focused his film on the “activist judges” who legalized same-sex marriage in California in spring. “It’s an issue we really feel passionate about, and we had the resources available to take some action.”
Other students at John Paul the Great Catholic University also made videos in support of the proposition. One of them, “Marriage Rights,” features a man haplessly trying to fit two electrical plugs together instead of into a socket. Finally, he looks into the camera and declares, “It doesn’t work.” Then a signs says: “Keep marriage real.” Source
*sigh* If you read the article, don’t pay too much attention to the fact that the above blurb is pretty much the only pro-8 section, or that the “other students” are not mentioned. *still sighing*
I don’t know Steve Marshall, but I do know that at least one JPC kid I know was interviewed for the article. So give ‘em a round of applause because they are brave, brave souls.
Also, a priest has set out to make a 10-part series on Catholicism. Click the image to watch.
