Rumor has it…vol. 4.
Celebrity News
In the super-awesome lead story of the post…
Actor Jim Caviezel went and got all Christ-like on us again (hehe…get it?)….He and his wife Kerry have adopted their second disabled child from China…Kerry Caviezel was on last week’s episode of Life on the Rock to talk about the adoption…and might I just add an obligatory “awwww yay!!” to this story…
Ali Landry and Alejandro Gomez Monteverde were spotted looking all couply and cute at the Race to Erase MS event earlier this month…
Ali also hosted the Hot Moms party at Tao in Las Vegas (in rather interesting outfit.) The party was in celebration of Mother’s Day.
I don’t really know what to do with this particular piece of news…Britney Spears went on vacation in Costa Rica and stayed at Mel Gibson’s house? I suppose if there’s a conversion story brewing than it’s cool, but umm…you’ve got to wonder what the dinner conversation was like…
Eduardo Verastegui celebrated his 34th birthday on the 21st of this month…he is also signed on to be the spokesperson for a new family-friendly cable channel in Mexico…
Eduardo was also named one of People en Español’s 50 Most Beautiful People…I was going to post the picture of the magazine, but there have been way too many pictures of him on this blog lately…but I am glad the long hair is back…
Film News
“Bella” came out on DVD May 6th…the movie is doing very well, and has racked up a few more award nominations…
From what I’ve heard, Metanoia Films is developing its next project…I don’t know what it is yet, but believe me I will…
Is a “Left to Tell” adaptation in the works? I actually just ordered a copy of the book because I’ve been wanting to read it…Steve McVeety said he thought the book would make a good movie when he was featured on Life on the Rock a few months ago…hmmm….I’ll have to ask around….
“The Human Experience” (2007) will have its official world premiere at the Maui Film Festival taking place from June 11-15…congrats to Grassroots Films….
Media News
Stop the presses West Coast folks! There’s a Catholic Underground in Los Angeles! Catholic Underground is a night of art and worship originally started by the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal in New York City. There are chapters all around the country, and June 21st will be the first event for the West Coast. Some of the friars are confirmed to be flying out from NYC to kick it off. (You can check out videos from past events on UStream.) For the art portion of the first event, there will be a FREE screening of “The Human Experience”. You can read my review of the film here.
Unfortunately, I will not be attending the first event because that night I will be on a plane to go to the CNMC! In case you haven’t heard, SQPN is hosting the first ever Catholic New Media Celebration on June 22nd in Atlanta, Georgia. It’s less than a month away and from what I hear registration is still open. Are you going? Come ooooon…all the cool kids will be there…if you don’t believe me check out all of the special guests listed on the site…I can’t wait to see Popple! *girly scream*
Josh of the Perseverance Podcast has started a new blog, Tech Tips for Catholic Teens…I’m supposed to be a contributor though if you go visit the page you’ll notice I haven’t made a post yet…heh…

I was featured on Episode #46 of Lisa Hendey’s Catholic Moments Podcast. It was a very cool experience and I can’t wait to meet Lisa at the CNMC in June! And because I’m a lame-o, I took a screen shot of SQPN’s site:

My comments on the Oscars were also featured in the May issue of Academia, an online magazine for librarians…super random I know…but it was fun too…
Exit questions:
1) Are there any books you would like to see adapted into movies? Genre doesn’t matter, I’m just curious because I have to adapt something this fall.
2) Are there any saints’ lives you’d like to see put on film?
3) What should I rename the “Rumor Has it” thread to? Or do you like this name? I don’t know…I feel it needs to change…

May 26th, 2008 at 11:21 pmRebecca,
To answer a few of your questions, I LOVE the column title as is…sort of a cool, Catholic gossip column feel to it. Like People magazine, but full of people you can actually admire!
To answer your question about film adaptations, one I’d love to see is The Secret Cardinal by Tom Grace http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1593154569/catholicmo mcom
It’s such a great story!
If I think of any others, I’ll comment again. Can’t wait to meet you in ATL!
May 27th, 2008 at 2:20 pmI would like to see a movie on St. Gianna Beretta Molla.
May 27th, 2008 at 3:30 pmI would like to see St. Philip Neri’s life on film f’sho! And what about St. Maxamilian Kolbe? Or Kateri Tekakwitha? (sp?)
