Don’t go see it.

“Jumper” is so bad I can’t even link to it.
I went and saw the film a few days ago because I liked the concept (I love sci-fi/fantasy films) and I wanted some inspiration for a sci-fi sequence I’m writing for my genre class. But my God was the movie horrible. The script [...]

25 Feb

Sweeeeeeeeeet.

My spring break doesn’t begin officially until Friday, but I get to skip off campus early this semester because this Thursday evening I will be traveling to Anaheim with the sacristan & acolyte (altar server) ministries for the Religious Education Congress. Since my university is the largest Catholic school in LA, the archdiocese employs [...]

Heck yeah baby.

“Juno” got exactly what it deserved. Best Screenplay!

Now we just have to see if Diablo Cody can pump out more awesome screenplays, or if this was just a one-time thing. More Oscar commentary to come in the next vlog…

My new blog: Modestia

So today I was going through my routine when a thought hit me—to start a fashion blog from a Catholic perspective. And so I hopped on the computer and did.
It’s called “Modestia”, meaning “modesty” in Latin. So while you’re waiting patiently for my vlog, check it out and tell your friends.
Pax Christi, Rebecca.

The Vlog is on hold…

I was intending to post the first episode of the new vlog section today, but I had papers and projects due this week and didn’t have time to finish editing. The episode will be done either tomorrow or Sunday.
But in the meantime, watch this video of Trevor Thomson, a wonderful Catholic musician singing [...]

Genuinely funny.

It’s so hard to find comedy that’s genuinely funny (save the vulgarity). But behold my friends, true funny:
The group that does these videos is called ImprovEverywhere.

The thing about this one is that by the time you realize what’s going on, it’s too late…LOL…

This one’s not really funny, but it’s definitely entertaining.

17 Feb

Sexy.

I’m glad somebody said it:
A row has erupted over “Vatican interference” after the Italian Synod of Bishops appealed to actors to exercise their consciences and refuse to take part in “vulgar and destructive” erotic scenes in films.
The appeal follows public condemnation by the bishops of an explicit sex scene in Caos Calmo, starring the Italian [...]

If Ebay were a man I’d marry him and have his baby.

No really, I would. And that baby would look like this:

This beautiful 6lb 3 oz. beauty arrived on Friday. She’s a Canon XL1. You’ll remember I said I wanted an Xl2, but I couldn’t find one for under $3,000. And so, I bought an XL1 loaded with extras, including an $800 wide angle [...]

Rumor has it…

Since it’s Lent and Lent is a time for confession, I will admit that I am a regular visitor of celebrity gossip sites. Help me Jesus, they’re a guilty pleasure. To my knowledge, we don’t have any resources like this in the Catholic entertainment world. And so, since I’ve been hearing a lot of [...]

12 Feb

Questionable? Indeed.

I’ve been sitting on this post for what seems like weeks now, but whatever, better late than never right?
Harry Forbes, the head of the USCCB’s office for Film & Broadcasting, has come under fire yet again, for his endorsement of certain questionable Hollywood films.
LifeSite has led the charge:
Harry Forbes, the Director of the USCCB Office [...]

11 Feb

Yep, it’s over.

It’s not officially official until the guild takes a vote, but the strike is over. A number of writers returned to work today with the rest to follow suit throughout the week.
I must say, the LA Times has had excellent coverage of the strike these past few months:
THERE’S no real way to gauge who [...]

09 Feb

It’s Over. (Almost.)

The guild has reached a tentative deal. It looks like the strike is over, but we’ll see. More commentary coming soon…

07 Feb

Wish me luck.

Tomorrow I’m shooting my first project for my production class. I’ve been sick and so busy the past few weeks I haven’t prepared for the shoot as I would have liked to. If it goes well, the footage may end up in a project I’m developing to begin production over the summer.
I’ve [...]

06 Feb

Yet another…

Pro-life film coming out of Hollywood!
Angela had this posted today and I just had to follow suit. The message is more subtle, but oh is it there:

Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who comes out in theaters March 14th.

Happy Lent!

I’ve decided to do the following:
1. Daily mass, including 7:30 am mass on Saturday *groan*
2. At least one decade of the rosary each day
3. Periodic fasting from food
4. Periodic fasting from my favorite material things, specifically music and make-up
5. Reading of the Gospels again as well as other saints writings and apologetics books
I’ve been known [...]

05 Feb

Film school fun! (No, not really.)

Note: This is a semi-obligatory “I had a horrible day and now I’m going to blog about it” type of a post. You’ve been warned.
So as most of you know, I am a screenwriting major. I really love to make movies but I just don’t have the burning passion it takes to make it in [...]

04 Feb

Doomsday: It’s officially official.

Pewsitter has a link posted for the new documentary “Demographic Winter,” a film about the rapidly declining global birth rate.
Usually I’m quite wary of “doomsday” documentary films, but I’ve been reading about this phenomenon for quite some time now, and all I can say is heaven help us. With plunging birth rates all across the [...]

I am a prophetess! (Sorta.)

I caught the flu at the beginning of the week, which sucked hard because I have asthma, but sucked even harder because I had to finish my action sequence before Thursday. (A “sequence” for those who don’t know, is a series of scenes centered around something like a place or an event, i.e. the opening [...]
